The Kaiju Era began when a vast monster fell to earth. Before nuclear weapons brought it down a week later, it reduced San Francisco to a smoking crater. This creature was designated LEVIATHAN HEAVEN, and was only the first of many.
Kaiju attacks are a fact of life. To defend against them, we developed the Eschaton Core, an esoteric power source that responds to human cognition and fighting spirit. With this power, we built mechs, deploying them in strike teams to push back the monsters that threaten our world. Yet we're no closer to finding out what the kaiju want or where they come from - we're trapped in what seems to be an eternal war, no matter how good we get at fighting back.
The mech industry is now the driver of the world economy. Pilots fight at the behest of apps, signing up and subscribing to receive alerts and payouts set by corporate market leaders. TacNet, and corporations like it, have turned kaiju defense into just another money-making machine. And you, the pilot, are as vital as you are disposable. You aren't a rock star - you're a contractor, trying to make ends meet, in a world falling apart around you.
Fight. Collect your payout. Make rent. Repeat. Which will kill you first - the kaiju, or your debts?
